Why do some sales reps achieve more success while others find it to be a daunting journey?

Having observed this closely, I have come to realize that there is no simple answer to this question. In our minds, we have a notion of what an ideal sales representative should possess - strong communication skills, the ability to fill up the activity sheet quickly, fearlessness, and so on. While these are great qualities to have, in my experience, the best-performing reps were the quieter ones who didn't necessarily score high on the activity meter but were focused, always knew what was happening in their accounts, were strategic, ahead of their competitors, and always had enough pipeline to close deals.

Trust - The Achilles heel

Sales, unfortunately, has often found itself at the lower end of the trust spectrum. It's a harsh truth we need to confront. As we push ourselves to hit targets and achieve goals, it's worth pausing to reflect – are we pushing so hard that we're risking our reputation in the process? Are we providing the right guidance to our teams as they navigate this tricky terrain? Or are we unintentionally perpetuating a cycle that does more harm than good?

And then there's the elephant in the room – missed sales targets. It's not just a setback; it's a domino effect waiting to happen. When reps can't meet their goals, it can trigger a series of repercussions – a sales capacity gap, longer hiring cycles, and extended onboarding times. The result? The company's entire operational plan is hanging by a thread. It's astonishing how the significance of a sales rep's performance hasn't translated into sales technology that truly understands the nuances of trust-building and the intricacies of buying behaviors.
